Extracted Season 1, Episode 10 Recap: Which Survivalist Won $250,000?

We have reached the season finale of Extracted. The new reality TV show from FOX has brought a unique take on the world of survival reality TV that has had people talking over the past ten weeks. The final four saw Woody, Haley, Jake, and Meagan battling it out for $250,000 while their families are inside headquarters. I recap the finale and share my thoughts on the winner. 

What is Extracted?

The One-of-a-kind survivalist competition series, Extracted, features 12 untrained competitors attempting to survive extremely grueling conditions, perilous terrain, and the threat of fearsome predators in the unforgiving Canadian wilderness. Meanwhile, some miles away, their family members are locked down at a secluded headquarters watching them navigate their dangerous surroundings alone via a 24/7 live feed. The fate of each untrained contestant in the wilderness lies in the hands of their family members back in HQ. Each amateur survivalist’s family has the power to decide whether their loved one has what it takes to brave the elements and fight to be the last one standing, or whether the family will push the ominous “Extract” button and remove their loved one and their whole family from the competition. Extracted begs the question: how far will their loved ones let them go for a chance for their family to win $250,000?

Extracted, Season 1, Episode 10 Recap

The cliffhanger from last week showed that Haley was on the brink of being potentially extracted by her crew at HQ, but Karly and Natalie decided to give her the night to see if she improved. Once it was announced that everyone was entering the finish line and heading on the final mission to win $250,000, our survivalist got that second (and maybe tenth) wind. 

The final challenge was split into three-phase, first they had to blow up a tub and paddle across a mile: long part of the river. Second, they would have to unlock a box with a five-letter code word that their families in HQ picked for them. Last, they would have to figure out the morse code to go in the right direction, where they would find a box with $250,000 inside of it. 

In a shocking twist, the first two to unlock their box with the five-letter word would move to the final leg, while the other two would be extracted. Two families fumbled the five-letter word, allowing the two survivalists to trek down to the final part of the race. 

Who Won Extracted?

After Jake and Woody jumped out to a massive head start on water, they were caught up by the five-letter word, allowing Haley to make a move and get the box opened first with the word Shark. It proved to be a game-winning word because Jake finally realized it was his son’s name, Brody, but he was too far behind Haley, leading to Haley taking home the crown of Extracted and winning $250,000 alongside Karly and Natalie.
