Reality TV Cooking Corner: 24 in 24: Last Chef Standing S2E1 Recap

Welcome to the Reality TV Cooking Corner, where I recap the latest shows in the world of competition Reality TV cooking. Today I dive into season 2 of one of my favorite new Reality TV cooking shows, Food Networks, 24 in 24: Last Chef Standing. The grueling competition show kicked off its second season with new twists and many chefs already going home. I recap everything that went down in the first episode.

Food Network’s ambitious and grueling competition series, 24 in 24: Last Chef Standing, is back for a second season Sunday, April 27 at 8|7c. Shot in real time, hosts Michael Symon and Esther Choi will gather a group of 24 talented and fearless chefs for 24 challenges over the course of 24 straight hours. Skill, creativity and stamina are tested while the clock never stops — and only one competitor will survive to become the last chef standing and win $75,000.

Shift One: Speed

Three Challenges within a three-part speed race. First, they have to separate egg whites, whisk them until they are stiff, and turn them upside down. Second, they must tourne eight potatoes. Last, they have to hand juice 8 oz. of lemons.

Although Bryan Voltaggio was first to complete the potatoes, Kevin Lee slayed the lemons, winning the golden knife. In a twist, Kevin had the chance to battle one of the chefs in a head-to-head battle, and whoever loses will be going home. He challenged Michele, and we had special guest judge Chef Antonia, who picked Kevin’s dish, sending home our first chef in Michele.

After everyone else completed the challenge, half of the people will be going home in the third part of shift one. The person with the red cutting boards, they have an advantage, they can choose to go head-to-head with the same person in the protein, or they can team up against another protein to send home a team.

Chicken Battle: Chef Damaris advances, with Ashleigh going home.
Chicken Battle Part Two: Jonathan advances, with Star going home.
Pork Time: Chef Kelsey advances, with Dara going home.
Pork Battle Part Two: Chef Laurence wins, with Arturo going home.
Shellfish Battle: Nini and Gabe advances, with Ilan and Richie going home.
Lamb Battle: Chef Brittany advances, with Zuri going home.
Lamb Battle Part Two: Chef Kathleen UPSETS MARC MURPHY!!!!!! WOW.
Fish Battle: Chef Bryan and Elliot advance, with Leslie and Sam going home.

The best bite of the entire round and that person will take home $2400, and it was Chef Brittany. Shift two will be simplicity, with room for only 12 chefs, with 13 chefs remaining. Overall, the added twists to the game made the first episode different while also bringing the spice of what we liked from the first season. I love this show and can’t wait to see what next week has in store for us.

Below you can check out my current favorites, top three, and my dark horse of the competition.
